Job Summary

The Advanced Application Development/Technical Service (ADTS) Engineer role is responsible for relationship maintenance of key Avient customers in the polymer packaging industry, including PET and polyolefin Food & Beverage packaging, in the US & Canada region for the ColorMatrix™ business team. This position will work closely with the Avient sales team and customers to identify unmet needs to develop new or promote existing liquid dispersion colorant and/or additive products (e.g. chemical scavenging technologies, light barriers, PET reheat chemistries, nucleators, IV chain extenders, etc.) to serve as solutions.

 

The successful Advanced ADTS Engineer candidate will help optimize customer processes and conditions while providing education to customers on how to run Avient liquid colorants and additives, troubleshoot issues raised by customers, be accountable for resolution of complaints raised by assigned key customers, and develop new application or product launch testing plans, data analysis, and communication of results.

 

Essential Functions

·       Works in a safe and responsible manner by implementing and following standards.

·       Serves as technical resource across businesses.

·       Provides product development, project management, and business support while being a technical liaison to customers by demonstrating the value our products & services deliver.

·       Develops application data in support of sales and marketing, including using customer information in established models to predict additive requirements and performance.

·       Monitors the competitive landscape and provides information on relevant competitive benchmarks.

·       Provides training to sales personnel, agents, and customers on the function, application, and value proposition of our product technologies.

·       Works closely with customers to optimize performance of Avient formulations and processing on the customers manufacturing equipment.

·       Collaborates with Commercial team to develop strong relationships with key and target customers in the Packaging segment, by defining critical customer requirements and developing sustainable solutions accordingly.

·       Collaborates with cross-functional teams to commercialize new products and supports the business by identifying opportunities for growth.

·       Provides technical support to sales, manufacturing, and external customers via needs and feasibility assessment, product recommendations and application guidance.

·       Works with new and established customers to identify technical specifications.  Develops or modifies liquid colorant and/or additive formulations to meet customer specifications.  

·       Works closely with the Technical Service team to ensure successful product implementation in the customer process.  Active participant in optimizing customer process and/or Avient dosing equipment to ensure technical success.

·       Presents technical work to customers and various levels of management as needed.

·       Documents and prepares product specifications incorporating Avient products and services into customer applications.

·       Develops testing for customer specific production needs.

·       Manages successful resolution of customer complaints/issues.

·       Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

 •    Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or equivalent (preferred but not required).


•     
5+ years of direct experience in polymer processing for the packaging industry (injection molding, ISBM, EBM, thermoforming, and/or extrusion).


•     Ability to function with little to no direction.

Additional Qualifications

·       Knowledge of the polymers and additives used in PET and olefin packaging as well as the application methods used for thermoplastics.

·       Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and think outside the box.

·       Strong Analytical, technical and strategic thinking skills.

·       Working knowledge of analytical/physical testing techniques.

·       Effective communication skills.

·       Ability to manage and advance several projects simultaneously to maximize business impact.

·       Exceptional proficiency with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint and Excel.

·       Ability to travel up to 50% domestically on company business.
