Job Summary 

Reporting to Sr. Business Development Manager - Transportation – responsible for identifying market specific growth opportunities and customer targets aligned with those opportunities, building high, wide and deep customer relationships, selling PolyOne value, driving new specifications, managing projects start to finish and ultimately closing new profitable business by focusing on the transportation industry (automotive, aerospace, heavy truck, etc).  Target customer roles include R&D, Engineering, Marketing, Executive Leadership and Sourcing.  BDM is responsible for driving business growth primarily at Tier 1 and OEM level for both Thermoplastic Elastomers and Engineered Thermoplastics

 

Business Location: US Detroit / Cleveland area is preferred, other geographies considered with right experience and skill-set.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Full time hunter, prospector and rain-maker 

  • Develop account relationships, identify opportunities and capture service opportunities in the respective markets.

  • Identify, drive and close new business targets consistent with short / medium / long-term growth objectives.

  • Drive new material specifications from start to finish working across various roles internally and externally.

  • Develop and implement market and account specific strategies and growth plans; provide feedback on resource needs and emerging opportunities; recommend to Marketing and Product Management changes in PolyOne product / service offerings by evaluating product results and competitive developments; drive market development activities.

  • Approach the sales and development process with a high degree of professionalism and effectiveness by successful utilization of customer centric selling skills.

  • Develop deep understanding of and share knowledge of key markets, players within these markets, target applications, requirements, trends, and needs as well as PolyOne’s potential.

  • Lead cross-functional teams (sales, customer service and technical functions) to accelerate and drive profitable growth through solutions selling to targeted accounts.

  • Establish a linkage between the customer’s business strategy and PolyOne’s capabilities.

  • Manage strategic relationships, cultivate new alliances, and monitor competitive activity.

  • Collaborate cross-regionally and cross-Business unit to achieve win-win growth.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor or Master Degree ideally in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials or Chemical engineering or related.

  • Minimum 5 years of proven engineering/commercial experience working in the automotive or aerospace market, ideally at Tier 1/2 level as program or project manager, Account manager or in marketing. 

  • Materials related experience is a plus.

  • Highly motivated, self-starter, possessing drive for success.

  • Strong customer centric attitude, business acumen and not afraid of cold calling.

  • Strong analytical thinking, organizational and collaboration skills.

  • Excellent negotiation and persuasion capabilities.

  • Ability to Influence and communicate across all roles and levels both internally and externally.

  • Excellent project management skills.

  • Hands-on attitude and willingness to take on challenges when they arise.
