The Co-Op Student is an entry level production engineering position which allows an engineering student, following their second year of formal studies, to gain real life, hands-on experience in the manufacturing setting. The successful Co-Op Student will be exposed to many areas of manufacturing, such as laboratory work, production processing, and trouble shooting. The specific assignments are geared to the needs of the plant during that time, as well as the interests of the Co-Op Student.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

While performing any procedure, all associates and contract personnel must observe applicable Safety, Health, and Environmental rules and guidelines. The use of appropriate personal protective equipment is required.

Adhere to appropriate company operating procedures, benefit rules, employment policies, and safety policies.

Q.C. Lab Assignment:
-
Test physical properties of finished products - tensile strength, elongation, modulus, harness, dispersion rating, viscosity, rheological properties, flame properties, and color properties.
-
Alert process engineer and production supervisor of any product failures.
-
Assist in problem solving and corrective action.
-
Process Development Assignment:
-
Work with the process engineer to organize and complete process development projects on time.

Schedule and conduct lab / production trials using Banbury, mill, extruder, presses, and testing equipment in order to meet the project’s objective.
-
Observe and interpret the test results to provide meaningful reports.
-
Optimize mixing procedures and develope robust manufacturing instructions.

Plant Project Assignment:
-
Work with the process engineer to design and implement projects that will continuously improve the facility’s and company’s capability to serve customers and grow the business profitably.

Follow and document production trials.
-
Review Spectrum SPC system data to spot problem areas that impact quality and quantity, monitor CPKs and review with supervision to offer suggestions for improvement. Work with the QC lab daily on customer performance data.

Requires high school diploma or GED equivalency, and scheduled to complete a four-year engineering degree.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product recipes/material identifications.

Must have mathemical skill to add, subtract, multiply and divide and the ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
-
Must be able to effectively communicate in English one-on-one and in small group situations.
-
Must have ability to reason and address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a wide variety of small hand tools, scales, spatula, barrel cart, hand trucks, fork lift, utility knife, and mixer/blender machinery and computer equipment.

Competent PC (MS Office and Windows).
-
Interpretation of electrical and mechanical drawings is a plus.

Some knowledge of extrusion processing is a plus.
-
Ability to organize, prioritize, and delegate is a plus.

Problem-solving skills are necessary for troubleshooting is a plus.

Ability to work with all groups of people on a regular basis is a plus.

Some knowledge of Statistical Process Control is a plus.
Required Length & Type of Experience:

Succssful completion of 2 years of a 4 year engiineering degree.
Required Certification, Licenses, Registration:

May require obatinment of a Fork Lift Operator's License.
