Job Summary
The Life Protection Lead will be responsible for running a piece of production equipment and also facilitate teamwork and resources within shift and department. To set up, operate, adjust, and clean all equipment required to produce product in accordance to work instructions and standard operating procedures. Take samples and determine properties of the produced intermediate and finished products. Maintain records of raw materials and the finished product in the appropriate system. Move, measure, maintain inventory and store raw, intermediate, and finished products.
The working Life Protection (Film) Lead will:
- Be responsible for running a piece of Film equipment in addition to assisting in the training, guidance, and leadership of other team members.
- Be responsible for setting up, operating, adjusting and cleaning all equipment required to produce Film in accordance to work instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Take samples and determine properties of the produced intermediate and finished products.
- Maintain records of raw materials and the finished product in the appropriate system.
- Inspect and pack finished product as needed.
- Move, measure, maintain inventory and store raw, intermediate, and finished products.

- Set up, operate, adjust, and clean all equipment required for production accordance to work instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining quality product.
- Take samples to test and determines properties of the produced products. Prepares samples for offline quality checks. Perform off-line tests. Supply and maintain inventory of components/supplies as needed.
- Support and drive productivity to meet plant and corporate initiatives, as outlined in the manufacturing plan.
- Correct process conditions with given limits, to maintain desired results. Request and/or issue maintenance tickets for maintenance for repair work. Performs intermediate mechanical repair and/or preventative maintenance work when needed or as assigned.
- Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a “need to know” only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.
- Performs in-process quality checks as required. Demonstrates a commitment to quality by ensuring all product documentation is accurate and complete.
- Responsible for compliance with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOP’s, and other related documentation and activities. Ensures Company guidelines related to company policies relating to quality, safety, housekeeping and cost effectiveness are met.
- Maintain records of the used raw materials and the produced products in the appropriate computer system. Enters data about components, intermediate and finished products into the MES system. Maintain accurate production related records.
- Move, measure, maintain inventory and store raw, intermediate, and finished products. Receives stores, handles and delivers raw materials and finished products as required or directed. Utilize standard material handling equipment. Operate rider and/or walk for truck and overhead crane.
- Utilize good judgment in making critical decisions on product quality, equipment functionality, safety and other related activities.
- Identifies problems related to equipment, work orders, log books, set-ups and other related activities and recommends ways to solve. Makes suggestions regarding product quality, safety precautions, and work improvements Inform appropriate personnel of any problems that may impair the quality of the Film product, packaging components, work efficiency and/or safety.
- Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing DYNPRO SHE DYN 653 and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.
- Facilitate teamwork within the shift and in conjunction within the entire Film production group. Aid in gaining resources for the team to fulfil objectives.
- Coordinate the workflow efforts of Film technicians.
- Coordinates support departments (ex: Logistics) during the off-shifts.
- Verifies production system information accuracy and completeness. Ensure daily audit paperwork is complete and filed and any outages communicated and resolved. Reviews quality information daily and consults with supervision to adjust.
- Issue work notifications and permits as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Authorities
Authorized to approve work permits per details included in the Site Work Permit Procedure. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities.

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville, NC) work site. Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes. Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter. Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes. Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.
Complexity of the Job
- This role requires working on a rotating shift schedule. Assignments (shifts, equipment, and production area) are adjusted based on business needs.
- Production technicians are expected to work with team members and other support resources to ensure “first time right” material.
- Overtime will be assigned and/or requested based on business needs.
Knowledge and Education Level
- High school diploma (Required) with at least 3-5 years of experience working in a manufacturing, production, or equivalent military technical experiences / training.
- Working knowledge and/or routine use of and experiences with business processes and platforms such as:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Manufacturing operations systems
- Equipment digital interfaces
- Safety, Health and Environmental requirements and practices
- Continuous Improvement methodologies
Required Level of Experiences
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and understanding of machine controls and instrumentation.
- Ability to follow appropriate SHE procedures.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and applicable work instructions.
- Taking responsibility and being accountable for personal behaviors and performance (self, equipment and product).
- Analytical skills to be able to spot issues/deficiencies of varying complexity within the manufacturing process quickly and take appropriate and timely action to rectify.
- Mechanical competency and knowledge including equipment assembly.
- Ability to make informed and data driven decisions quickly, at times under pressure.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation via hand-written forms and electronic database systems.
- Effective communication skills to receive information related to site and area goals, expectations and other pertinent information and translate to action in daily activities.
- Ability to organize, schedule and follow-up on activities based on area expectations and needs.
- Ability to contribute to, support and drive change management in the area.
- Capability to have interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills to effectively communicate with teammates and other area support groups.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to operate forklift and overhead cranes.
Physical Demands
- Requires standing and sitting for extended periods of time, talking and listening.
- Must be able to walk and use hands. Occasionally requires bending, stooping, climbing ladders and stairs.
- May occasionally be required to lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Typically work is in a manufacturing environment where noise level is loud.
- Generally requires the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, hard hat, respiratory protection.
- Exposure to outside weather conditions is occasional.
- May be exposed to working in extreme heat and humidity.
- May also be exposed on occasion to dust or fumes.
