We are looking for a strong Global HR Leader to join Avient and our Protective Materials business.  This critical leadership role will develop and implement strategic and tactical plans for human resources services, policies, and programs by leveraging the expertise and talents of Avient’s global HR organization.  The incumbent will guide decision-making processes and positively impact the results of the organization by attracting, engaging, developing, rewarding, and retaining the industry’s best talent in a manner that is cost-efficient and compliant.

The Global HR Leader will be a key member of the Protective Materials leadership team; partnering directly with the business’ General Manager and functional leaders so business acumen is a must. While based in Geleen, Netherlands, the incumbent will strategically support the global organization with manufacturing locations based in The Netherlands, China, and the United States. This provides the incumbent the opportunity to drive meaningful change across the Protective Materials business while reporting directly to the Global HR Director for the Specialty Engineered Materials segment where they will also influence enhancements and innovation for the global people and culture strategy at Avient.  

GLOBAL HR LEADER  

Essential Functions

  • Key contributor on the Protective Materials business unit management team; with HR responsibility across all aspects of the employee life cycle.
  • Manages projects / initiatives and associated staff (directly or indirectly) in the development, enhancement, and innovation of the APM client group and HR department.   
  • Acts as a true business partner with leaders to develop and implement strategic human resources initiatives, policies and programs that align with business goals and drive business results.
  • Responsible for the talent management plans and programs for the APM business unit. 
  • Supports business leaders to design organization structure, business process and systems that support strategic goals.
  • Partners closely with HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) and regional HR teams to implement programs that drive business value through people and culture initiatives. 
  • Leverages data to influence decisions and prepares effective materials to communicate recommendations and desired outcomes.  
  • Creates a high-performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity, goal attainment, and the ongoing development of a best-in-industry team.
  • Proactively suggests and promotes processes that have positive return on investment and delivers value to internal and external customers.
  • Fosters teamwork at all levels, cross-functionally, cross-businesses, and cross-regions.
  • Acts as a catalyst for change with the ability to positively influence others to make difficult decisions.
  • Monitors key metrics (i.e. turnover, attendance, etc.) to assist leaders in effectively managing their workforce to maximize productivity and overall effectiveness.
  • Implements short and long terms plans to ensure performance and innovation within Avient’s Human Resources department.
  • Demonstrates business acumen and ability to make decisions that ensure a positive impact on the bottom line.
  • Creates a motivational environment of accountability.
  • Manages complex responsibility for or involvement in specific areas including but not limited to employee relations (main contact with local Works Council), areas outside of human resources (i.e. EH&S), larger business units, global duties, etc.
  • Guides people leaders in areas such as benefits, compensation, training, recruiting, workforce planning, talent management, conflict management, performance management, etc.
  • Oversees execution of operational human resource responsibilities including hiring, retention,  legal compliance, termination reviews, transfers and employee communications. 
  • Ensures that all policies and procedures are in compliance with all countries, and local regulations and are consistently administered.
  • Lead with a safety mindset, ensuring safety is adhered to through observations during site visits.  Stops and reports potential unsafe conditions via proper safety protocols.
  • Performs other projects as required by the business, functional unit and/or HR organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources or related discipline. Master’s degree, preferred. 
  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience as a human resources generalist, including, employee labor relations, interviewing, talent management, HRIS systems and leading others.
  • Strong knowledge with Dutch labor regulations and law, and experience working with Works Councils and unions.

  • Ability to multitask while knowing when to prioritize time and focus to most critical aspects. 
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze data succinctly to tell a story.
  • Proficiency in HR systems and Microsoft Office. 
  • Strong ability to coach, train, and mentor others.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with a team.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Robust verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to develop effective internal and external business relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to travel as required for successful execution of the essential functions of the position .
  • Strength in influencing across and within the organization to achieve results for the greater good.
  • Strong collaborator who knows how to navigate across a matrix global organization.
  • Organizational and Cross-functional Leadership with a willingness to speak openly and operate with transparency, expecting the same from management.
