LEAD R&D
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Design, plan, conduct, and lead laboratory activities (including hands-on lab work -formulating, sample preparations and analyses) to support new product development based on identified customer/market needs, manufacturing support initiatives in accordance with customer specifications at the lowest possible cost, while meeting company standards for quality and performance. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy and requires little to no day-to-day direction.
MAIN ACTIVITIES:
- Provides project management to product platform development including application of statistical experimental design, product testing, and data analysis.
- Developed skills on any identified specialized instrumentation to support product development initiatives and provide corresponding guidance to R&D team toward product optimization.
- Provides technical guidance across business units.
- Provide technical support to sales team through experiments and analyses where necessary in end-use applications in targeted industries/ markets.
- Partners with manufacturing to establish quality and testing conditions for new materials.
- Provide technical support to sales team, customers and various levels of management through development of product data and technical literature.
- Plan and oversee laboratory testing as needed to solve customer applications problems and evaluate product improvements.
- Implement all aspects of lab work in a safe work environment; provide regular input on improving or upgrading capabilities within the laboratory to enhance efficiency/productivity.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- Advanced degree preferred such a master in science and / or MBA.
- 5 years of experience in the chemical industry, preferably with research and development in master batch or liquid pigments of thermoplastic resins.
- Customer oriented, multi-task, self-motivated, critical thinking and results-oriented.
- Project management.
- Experience with SAP is preferred.
- Experience with regulatory affairs of chemicals.
- Ability to work individually with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to appropriately push back on scheduling changes while balancing strong customer support.
