Maintenance Technician – Lead

Under the direction of the Manufacturing Manager, the Maintenance Lead Technician is responsible for completing maintenance assignments to build, repair and/or maintain all equipment in good operating condition as quickly and accurately as possible; while keeping associated costs to a minimum and meet Plant’s goals.


Essential Functions
  • Completes projects with minimal guidance showing a proactive attitude to design and installations.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical devices in operation. Dismantles and examines devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs input/output devices using PLC systems.
  • Troubleshoots, completes, designs, upgrades and installs electrical equipment, circuits and systems.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs/replace electrical components at the component level.
  • Sets up and operates shop machinery such as lathe, drill press, grinders, band saws, cutting torch, welder, etc. Uses hand tools and pneumatic tools to modify or repair parts and equipment.
  • Installs new or repairs/modify hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as needed.
  • Improves reliability and up time of all equipment. Takes a proactive approach to equipment issues with a preventive maintenance mentality.
  • Operates the cooling water and waste water system in compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Operates forklift and hydraulic working platform as needed.
  • Researches supplies, parts and machines needed to complete work orders.
  • Assists in organizing and maintaining an accurate inventory of parts.
  • Performs and documents work orders and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Documents work completed. Contributes to upkeep and updating of required paperwork such as records, maintenance logs, documents, manuals, drawings, PM logs, etc.
  • Supports the vision, mission and guiding principles of the company.
  • Follows applicable ISO, Safety, Health and Environmental rules and guidelines while performing any procedure.
  • Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Available to work different shifts and be available for emergency call-ins.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent from 2-year college or technical school in maintenance mechanics related field. Plus 5 years’ experience in industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical and construction.
  • Experience should include the following: complex machine controls and instrumentation (including sophisticated instrument systems, PLC’s, etc. Complex welding/brazing, Complex Hydraulics, Plumbing, Pneumatics, Carpentry. Requires the ability to use hand tools, power tools, drill press, cutting torch, etc.
  • Must have knowledge of industrial electrical, including advance electrical (three phase 260 volt and higher).
  • Must have knowledge of electrical components, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Must have knowledge of mechanical systems including gear boxes, motors, air compressors, pumps, AC, DC, drive troubleshooting, etc.
  • Prior experience in the plastics processing industry (extrusion or injection molding) as a maintenance technician is a plus.
  • Must have computer skills, Microsoft Office, able to do research on the Internet or company Intranet.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Work in a safe manner and maintain a good safety record.
  • Effectively manage time and take initiatives for improvements.
  • Able to be a team member and work well with others.
 
Work Environment:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. 
  • Be aware that in this position you will be working around powdered colorants and more times than not, you will be grimy and dirty at the end of the day.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hearThis position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Be able to lift, push or pull up to 200 lbs. with the aid of equipment. Able to walk, see, and hear sufficiently to perform assigned tasks. Be able to communicate orally and in writing. The employee must be able to read at a level of comprehension sufficient to meet job requirements.
