JOB SUMMARY

The Process Technician position will work in the R&D group of SEM business unit in Avon Lake. The Process Technician will be responsible for weighing batches and compounding on a twin screw or single screw extruder, henschels and underwater pelletizing systems, on projects assigned to you and will be expected to have a high degree of proficiency with materials processing on the equipment. The Process technician will work with an R&D Scientist on new specialty compound development. The majority of the activities will be conducted using laboratory scale machines and equipment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a clean and safe operating environment.
  • Follow safety and housekeeping procedures.
  • Laboratory work involving new experiments and sample preparation.
  • Process material using Brabenders, Single-Screw, Twin-Screw, extruders and Henschels and underwater pelletizing systems, compression molding for plaque testing.testing
  • Accurately record data on extrusion trials in EKB and interact with scientist before and after project has been completed.
  • Test TPE compounds using Tensometer, Rheometer and other lab testing instruments.
  • Attend and participate in safety meetings and training activities relevant to this position.

EDUCATION 

• High School Diploma Required.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE 
• 3+ years of experience in R&D, Quality or Manufacturing. Previous experience in plastic strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • High attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to multitask with strong time management skills.

  • Team player – be willing to help where needed.

  • Ability to troubleshoot when problems arise during extrusion process.
