Job Summary

The Product Manager provides leadership in pricing and drives improvement in gross margins by providing visibility to all components of the value chain and may interact with global counterparts to ensure implementation of best practices, effective strategic product marketing (market views, segmentation, and multi- generational product planning) as well as platform definition and positioning for PolyOne’s products. This individual is a thought leader who performs independently and has demonstrated the ability to effectively interact and influence peers and the next level up in organizations (PolyOne and Customer).

 
Essential Functions
  • Leads all pricing practices to ensure price compensates for value and ultimately drives gross margin expansion, evaluates the effectiveness of pricing strategy and tactical execution.
  • Accountable for gross margin for all product platforms. Assists in the organization of/drives measurement and tracking activities through pricing dashboards.
  • Responsible for the development of new product pricing and implementation of the strategic marketing direction for the product pricing platforms.
  • Reviews product prices, approves price deviations; recommends discontinuance of unprofitable products, implements price increases, and price hold strategies.
  • Develops and reviews product forecasts for understanding of customer behavior and potential to recommend stocking programs or SKU rationalization to maximize profitability and ensure we are nimble to customer needs, monitors business results.
  • Ensures products and customers’ sales records are analyzed for new and current product pricing; that performance is evaluated against targets. Monitors product gross margins and profitability against control standards; keeps competitive records to understand market pricing and reduce business attrition due to price.
  • Leads cross-functional team to address profitability of underperforming products
  • Recommends and advances quote tool updates and methodology in conjunction with IT, as necessary.
  • Initiates and updates Strategic pricing for shared accounts in conjunction with management in Color NA as well as ColorMatrix Global.
  • May coordinate and attend various trade/organization functions to develop business contacts and gather market information.
Product Marketing
  • Engagement of customers and the business leveraging key tools such as situational analysis, sales & marketing plans, the POL process, EVE tools, the pricing quote tool, marcom resources, effective product launch kits, etc.
  • Oversees the development and introduction of new products with sales, research, manufacturing and distribution.  Develops technical literature, advertising campaigns, definitions, specification and performance standards.  Develops, reviews and coordinates product promotion, technical presentations and advertising through marketing staff and marketing communications.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of sales campaigns advertising programs and technical literature.
  • Ensures customer and PolyOne sales personnel receive continuous market education and technical support in the form of up-to-date product application technology, training and problem solving.  Develops contacts with major customers and suppliers.
  • Works closely with Environmental Health & Safety to ensure products meet local, state and federal/county regulations.
  • Takes customer and market trends, feedback and opportunities to create technology focus.
  • Drives measurement and tracking activities including market size, market share and ROI. *LI-CB1
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in marketing
  • 5 years’ experience with Voice of Customer and Change Management
  • 5 years’ experience in new product marketing and marketing strategies
  • 5 years’ experience in marketing role
