R&D Technician - Materials
Job Summary
The R&D Technician - Materials is responsible for supporting existing and developing new screen-printing ink products. Key functions for the R&D Technician - Materials include raw material evaluations and substitutions, supporting Manufacturing Operations and Quality Control, and product scale up.
Essential Functions
· Support raw material projects for the existing portfolio with lab bench work by mixing components according to formulations
· Perform analytical and application tests according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
· Support the development of new application and chemistry test methods
· Complete technology projects to further understanding of fundamental science
· Maintain accurate product lab work records, analyses, and data files
· Provide regular reports and presentations on results and activities
· Assist in the scale up process from lab through pilot to commercial production.
· Develop a working knowledge of available analytical and physical testing equipment
· Maintain a safe and clean working environment
· Minimal overnight travel could be required (less than 10%)
· Other projects/duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
BS degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related science as well as 2 years of experience in Ink R&D or Coatings R&D
Experience must include hands on formulation experience of new products from idea to commercialization
Experience in plastisol, silicone, and/or aqueous chemistry
Knowledge of statistical methods (e.g., Six Sigma, Design of Experiment, Gage studies) and their application in formulation chemistry an advantage
Additional Qualifications
Ability to analyze, interpret and manipulate data in MS Excel, Minitab, or other statistical software an advantage
Ability to differentiate color nuances by eye
Ability to communicate, present and report results using MS PowerPoint or similar
Previous knowledge and experience in screen printing applications an advantage

· Requires standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time.
· The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
· Must be able to lift 50-pound bags and move 250-pound drums (with a hand truck).
· May work is in a manufacturing environment where the noise level is moderate to loud.
· While performing duties of this job, the employee is exposed to mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, or airborne particles.
